Delve deep into realizing a cohesive body of work

As a photographer, at a certain point you come to realize that making a few great images here and there won’t get your photography to where you know it can be. Take the next step and commit yourself to an in-depth project by joining us for a ten-month journey that will culminate in a group exhibition at Project Basho in October!

In this course students will work on finding the perfect balance between the three components of making images: technical knowledge, visual language, and personal expression. The critique based class also places emphasis on improving technical proficiency from post-production to final print.

• Limited to 10 students to ensure an honest and trusting approach to feedback and criticism
• First three months are meant for experimentation/trial-and-error
• Last six months are spent carrying out a single idea
• Critique based learning allows for essential in-person feedback from the instructor and your peers
• Online component keeps your project on-track and up to date with the work of your classmates
• Individualized guidance from the instructor helps develop personal narratives and improve project sequencing and editing
• Technical instruction in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop leaves you in full control of your final print

  • Portfolio of 10-20 prints for initial critique
  • Long-term project ideas

Tsuyoshi Ito was born in Tokyo and later attended Temple University. Noticing a void in Philadelphia’s photography community, Tsuyoshi founded Project Basho in 2002, providing photography classes and darkroom space for working artists.
