Do you want to know how to develop your own B&W film instead of taking it into the photo lab? In this tutorial, you will learn the first step towards creating silver gelatin prints with your own hands: processing your negatives. Students gain a solid understanding of the equipment and chemistry involved as well as necessary techniques. Students will learn to how to safely handle film, load it into development tanks, prepare chemistry, process film, and store negatives in an archival manner. Emphasis is placed on understanding the chemical changes in the film as well as good darkroom practices to ensure consistency and optimal image quality. |

Deanna Witman is a fine art photographer from Pennsylvania, now living and working on the coast of Maine. She holds a M.F.A. in Photography from Maine Media College and a B.S. Degree in Environmental Biology from Kutztown University. As an artist/educator, she strives to impart the passion for creating. She has taught photography and the History of Photography at Project Basho, the Community College of Philadelphia, and the Center for Maine Contemporary Art. She is an artist-mentor at the Farnsworth Art Museum for teen programs through Julia's Gallery. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is held in private collections. |
