This class will focus on developing a project and/or portfolio through editing, critique, and discussion of marketing your photographs within a specific field, i.e. fine art, documentary/photojournalism, editorial, commercial, etc. to bring your work and career to the next level of achievement. The course is designed for photographers at any level of development and professionalism, but particularly well-suited to those who have a strong, consistent body of work, who have progressed beyond the beginners' level or who have decided to change directions in their work. Ultimately, this class will help you investigate multiple disciplines for your own career through observing other students work as well as listening to each students' critique. It also will provide you with a foundation of professional practices to guide you in developing and managing your career in a variety of photography disciplines by giving you the tools for navigating the 'real world.' |

| Instructor: | Vincent Cianni: Documentary photographer Vincent Cianni's work explores community and memory and teaches photography at Parsons The New School of Design, NYC. His project "We Skate Hardcore" was published by NYU Press and Center for Documentary Studies. Duke University's Special Collections Library has established a study archive of his documentary projects, which have been widely exhibited, published and collected extensively both nationally and internationally including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and LACMA. He has worked as a gallery director and freelance curator, book designer and photography appraiser. |
