Description:

Take a walk on the low-tech side of photography with plastic camera guru Michelle Bates. Learn the ins and outs of prepping and shooting with a Holga camera, and explore and experiment with other simple cameras as well. The workshop will present participants with many examples of how toy cameras have been used creatively in the past and will introduce techniques to get the most from their plastic cameras.

Participants will have ample time to shoot and experiment with the expressive possibilities of these basic cameras. Toy cameras are often unpredictable and can create dream-like atmospheric images that are highly evocative. After processing their film, participants will review their images as a group before heading into the darkroom for a primer on working with negatives from plastic cameras. Bates will also explain advanced camera modifications and present useful tips and tricks.
