Introduction to Large Format Photography

- Experience the process of creating large and ultra-large format negatives

Tsuyoshi Ito, Photography Classes and Workshops at Project Basho in Philadelphia PA
Description:

In this hands-on three-day workshop, students will work with large and ultra-large format cameras to create large negatives and learn the advantages of different formats. A variety of format sizes including 4x5, 8x10, and 7x17 will be offered for students to try out in the field. A day trip will be arranged on Saturday, covering technical points of consideration such as exposure, use of a tripod, and composition.

Instructor: Tsuyoshi Ito was raised in Tokyo and moved to Philadelphia in his early 20s to attend Temple University. Noticing a void in the city's photographic community, Ito founded Project Basho in 2002 to provide photography classes and darkroom space for working artists. He continues to develop this program which now includes digital facilities, exhibitions, events, and weekend workshops. Having worked commercially for years, Ito is an experienced printer and is particularly interested in historical processes as well as techniques that bridge the old and the new.
