| Description: |
In exploring the mysterious and fascinating qualities of pinhole photography, this workshop will begin with the introduction of the camera obscura. With a variety of materials such as wood, metal, foam core and found objects, participants will construct and then photograph with their own pinhole camera creations. Using film and photographic paper we will generate large format negatives and consider ways to interpret them in print form. We will experiment with zone plates (a distant relative of pinhole) and further examine ways to bridge the gap between high tech and low tech by retrofitting existing cameras, 35mm, medium and large format, holga, even digital SLRÕs with pinhole apertures. In this two-day workshop students will be encouraged to experiment with the multitude of possibilities and interpret the world around them using the characteristic long exposure and dreamlike quality of pinhole photography. Emphasis will also be placed on Òthinking outside the boxÓ and developing strong concepts and ideas. As part of the workshop, students will participate in Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day and will submit their work to the website. More at: http://www.pinholeday.org/ |
