Description:

This is a three-day workshop that will provide the participant with the opportunity to learn the traditional intaglio photogravure process. This is an accelerated workshop, which will commence with the exposing and etching of the plate. Prior steps, creating a film positive and sensitizing the gravure tissue, need to be completed prior to the workshop.

During the workshop the remaining steps of the gravure process will be covered in detail.

  • Phase I - Exposing the gravure tissue Preparing the plate to receive the gravure tissue Adhearing the gravure tissue to the plate
  • Phase II - Preparing the plate to be etched Etching the plate Preparing the plate for printing
  • Phase III - Inking and printing the plate

The workshop will meet for three full days. There will be a mandatory meeting prior to the workshop to discuss the steps of the entire gravure process as well as an in-depth discussion and demonstration of the preliminary steps. Those which need to be completed prior to the workshop, creating a film positive and sensitizing the gravure tissue.

  • Camera (35mm to 4x5)
  • Films
  • Developers

Instructor:

Kevin Martini-Fuller: During the past 25 plus years he has been active in developing and expanding his talent and sharing his knowledge with others through his teaching. Kevin divides his time between teaching, producing new work, and creating portfolios. Two new portfolios, "The Idaho years, 1975-1990", and "Studio closed every Friday" are scheduled to be released soon.

He currently lives, teaches photography, and pursues his creative photographic interests in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His area of expertise and passion is in historical photographic processes, specifically photogravure and carbon/carbro printing.
