Shelby Lee Adams
Description: This weekend workshop explores technical aspects of environmental portraiture— an understanding of lighting as a creative tool for portrait photographers. A special emphasis will be placed on the study of lighting subjects with the combination of natural and artificial light.

During shooting sessions in the field, all students will make images using different lighting ratios, metering, reflectors, and umbrellas as well as using different lighting conditions to explore some of the variety of possibilities. In the studio, the work of Mary Ellen Mark, Annie Libeowitz, Larry Fink and Nick Nixon will be studied by deconstructing their techniques and approaches.

All formats, digital, color and black and white films are welcome for the workshop. You will leave this workshop with increased confidence when working with your future subjects with a more varied approach.
