About ONWARD

ONWARD is an annual juried photography exhibition presented by Project Basho exclusively featuring the work of emerging photographers with unique vision and talent. Each year the selection for the exhibition will be judged by a notable photographer or another professional in the field.

Theme for ONWARD is open and any photographic medium can be submitted for consideration. Selected photographer’s work is featured in a group show at Project Basho Gallery, and further recognition is awarded in the forms of opportunities for an exhibition at Project Basho Gallery.

About Juror

Andrea Modica: As one of contemporary photography’s most important images-makers, Andrea Modica has earned national and international recognition and critical acclaim through her five monographs including “Tredwell” and “Minor League.” Her photographs have been exhibited across the country and are in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Whiteney Museum of American Art. Currently a professor at Drexel University, Andrea also teaches at International Center of Photography, Woodstock Photography Workshops, and Santa Fe Workshops.

About Project Basho

Project Basho is a photography resource center located in Old Kensington in Philadelphia, PA. With the community darkroom as the locus of the program, Project Basho offers classes and workshops on historical processes and other formal issues in photography. Project Basho is committed to re-introducing photography to Philadelphia by fostering a vibrant culture of photography through an array of educational programs such as informal critiques, lectures, an panel discussions as well as exhibitions at newly renovated gallery space.
